Heavy rainfall for a second consecutive day in Karachi claimed four more lives on Wednesday evening, including three children, raising the death toll to 14. Torrential rains have overwhelmed the city’s fragile infrastructure, bursting stormwater drains and sewers, disrupting industries, and causing prolonged power and internet outages. Authorities declared a public holiday as flooding worsened across multiple areas. According to the Edhi Foundation, two unidentified children drowned in the Lyari River and near Al-Asif Square, while another boy died after falling into a rainwater-filled ditch off the Northern Bypass. Police also reported the recovery of an unidentified elderly man’s body from floodwaters. Earlier, two brothers lost their lives due to electrocution in Shah Faisal Colony. Rescue teams continued efforts to locate missing victims as citizens grappled with worsening urban chaos.
