Zohran Mamdani to Take New York City Mayoral Oath on Quran on January 1

Zohran Mamdani will be sworn in as New York City’s first Muslim mayor on 1 January, reportedly taking his oath on the holy Quran. The 34-year-old Uganda-born Democratic Socialist and former state assemblyman won the November 4 election and will succeed Eric Adams. His inauguration will include a midnight oath administered by Attorney General Letitia James and a public ceremony later in the day. Mamdani’s campaign focused on affordability, including fare-free buses, universal childcare, and a rent freeze on regulated apartments, appealing to voters citywide.
