Pakistan has confirmed its fifth case of the mpox virus in Peshawar, according to Health Minister Qasim Ali Shah.
The mpox virus causes flu-like symptoms and pus-filled lesions. While it is usually mild, it can be fatal, particularly for children, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems.
The latest case involves a 33-year-old patient who arrived from a Gulf country on September 7 via Islamabad International Airport. After traveling, he stayed at a hotel in Peshawar and later visited a private clinic for treatment. He was then referred to Khyber Teaching Hospital, where tests confirmed the presence of the mpox virus.
