Supreme Court of Pakistan Declares Pension a Right, Not Charity or Donation

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has declared that pensions are a legal right and not charity or a favor, stressing that they are earned during service and cannot be denied without lawful grounds. A three-member bench led by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar ruled in favor of retired employee Qazi Khalid Ali, whose pension was earlier refused by the Ministry of Law and Justice. The Court directed the Ministry to review the case under proper legal rules, highlighting that pensions are guaranteed compensation for services rendered and must be protected. This landmark judgment ensures financial security for retired employees and reinforces that government departments cannot treat pensions as optional benefits.
