PTA Issues Guidelines to Help Recover Hacked WhatsApp Accounts

Millions of WhatsApp account hacking cases have been reported worldwide, raising serious concerns over user security, including in Pakistan where the messaging app is widely used. In response, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued safety guidelines and recovery steps for affected users, advising them to delete and reinstall WhatsApp and re-register their mobile numbers to regain access. PTA said the verification code sent to the registered number helps restore accounts, while enabling two-step verification can prevent future unauthorised access. The authority also urged users to avoid suspicious links, regularly update passwords, run antivirus scans, and closely monitor accounts for unusual activity, advising immediate contact with WhatsApp support if problems persist.
