The Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Major General (retd) Hafeez ur Rehman, emphasized the vital role of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) for businesses, freelancers, and IT professionals. Speaking to the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology, he acknowledged that many industries rely on VPNs for secure and efficient operations.
To address concerns about unauthorized VPN usage, the PTA has extended the VPN registration deadline to November 30. This extension provides users with additional time to comply with regulations and avoid disruptions in service. Rehman urged companies and individuals using VPNs to ensure proper registration to prevent future issues.
As of now, 25,000 VPNs have been registered, demonstrating progress in the registration process. Furthermore, the PTA has successfully blocked over 500,000 obscene websites as part of its efforts to promote secure and responsible internet use.
