PPP Seeks Lifetime Immunity for President, Calls for NAB Abolition in 27th Amendment

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has reportedly asked for lifelong immunity for the president and the dissolution of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) during discussions with the PML-N over the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment. Currently, Article 248 of the Constitution grants the president and provincial governors protection from criminal proceedings only while they are in office. However, according to reports, the PPP wants this protection extended to cover the president even after leaving office. The proposal has sparked political debate, as it could significantly change accountability and legal immunity provisions in Pakistan’s political system.
