Pakistan Braces for Above-Normal Monsoon Rainfall This Year

Pakistan is expected to receive above-average rainfall during this year’s monsoon season, according to international weather reports. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted higher-than-normal temperatures between April and June, though rainfall levels during this period are expected to remain close to usual seasonal averages. However, regions like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan may experience below-average rainfall, leading to potential water shortages. The country has already seen a 61% decrease in winter rainfall, with minimal snowfall. As a result, water levels in major dams have dropped below the “dead level,” affecting water flow. In Karachi, rapid urban development has worsened the issue, as concrete roads and buildings prevent rainwater from properly soaking into the ground.
