Only 38,000 out of 23 lakh freelancers have bank accounts

Pakistan has over 2.3 million freelancers, but only 38,000 have bank accounts, according to the Prime Minister’s Committee on IT Export Remittances. Led by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, the committee discussed boosting IT export remittances to support the economy.

Despite 500 new accounts being opened weekly, more efforts are needed to simplify and improve banking processes for freelancers. A working group will be formed to address these issues. The Finance Minister highlighted the IT sector’s potential to bring in foreign exchange and urged collective efforts to resolve freelancers’ banking challenges.
