Hamida Banu, a 75-year-old woman trafficked to Pakistan in 2002, finally returned to India on Monday.
Lured by traffickers with false promises of a job in Dubai, she was taken to Pakistan without legal documents, making her return impossible for years.
Her repatriation was facilitated by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. Journalist Ravinder Singh Robin confirmed on X that Hamida was handed over to Indian authorities at the Attari-Wagah border.
In a past interview, Hamida shared that she had lost hope of reuniting with her family.
