Microsoft has hired Sam Altman, the former CEO of OpenAI, to lead a new AI research team

Microsoft has enlisted Sam Altman, the former CEO of OpenAI, to spearhead a new advanced artificial intelligence (AI) research team.

This strategic move follows Altman’s departure from OpenAI, where more than 500 employees had expressed their intention to resign and potentially join him at Microsoft if he was not reinstated.

Given Microsoft’s status as OpenAI’s largest shareholder with a substantial $13 billion investment, the company has warmly welcomed Altman and Greg Brockman, OpenAI’s former President and Board Chair, to lead the newly formed AI research team.

Expressing enthusiasm about this development, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella highlighted the commitment to providing the necessary resources for the success of the team. Following the announcement, Microsoft’s shares experienced a 1.5% increase.
