The Lahore High Court has ruled that a husband must pay the full Haq Mehar to his wife even after divorce, strengthening women’s financial rights.
The court stated that all items listed in the nikahnama, including cash and jewellery, must be fully paid. If jewellery is not provided, the ex-wife is entitled to its current market value.
The court upheld a lower court’s decision and ordered the husband to fulfil the full payment without delay.
