Kenya’s Court of Appeal has partially upheld the appeal of Javeria Siddique, widow of slain Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif, ordering the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to pay her 10 million Kenyan shillings in damages for failing to act against those responsible for his killing. The court ruled that IPOA neglected its legal duty and failed to provide timely updates on the investigation, directing it to submit a written report within 30 days to Siddique and the Kenya Correspondents Association. However, it dismissed demands for a public apology, further compensation, criminal proceedings, and dismissal of involved officers, upholding the trial court’s earlier decision.
