The federal cabinet has approved the promotion of Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir to the prestigious rank of field marshal, following his leadership in Operation Bunyanum Marsoos. Senator Faisal Vawda stated that this new rank grants General Munir authority over appointments, extensions, and promotions across all three branches of the armed forces. This historic decision marks only the second time in Pakistan’s history that the title of field marshal has been awarded, with the first being General Mohammad Ayub Khan in 1959. As the highest rank in the Pakistan Army, the field marshal position carries no fixed tenure, highlighting its exceptional status.
