The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) for accepting a $2,000 bribe to clear the crew of a foreign ship at Port Qasim. They are also working to catch a Head Constable linked to the same case.
According to the FIA, Qasim Attaullah Mehmood, the former Port Qasim Immigration in-charge, misused his position by declaring the entry of eight foreign technicians as illegal. Instead of following regular immigration procedures, he pressured the ship’s captain and agent, demanding a bribe to approve the clearance.
Mehmood initially asked for $4,000 but later agreed to $2,000. This demand was made even though immigration rules usually allow technicians to board foreign ships for work without issues.
The FIA has taken firm action against Mehmood for abusing his authority. Investigations and raids are ongoing to ensure everyone involved in this corruption case is held accountable.
