Islamabad’s District and Sessions Courts have dismissed all eight appeals filed by private airline Air Blue over the 2010 plane crash and ordered the airline to pay PKR 5.41 billion in compensation to the victims. In a written verdict issued by Additional District and Sessions Judge Dr. Rasool Bakhsh Mirjat, the court also imposed an additional fine of PKR 1 million per appeal, totaling PKR 8 million, while deciding civil claims for damages arising from the crash. The compensation amounts were allocated to multiple victims and their families, including payouts exceeding PKR 1 billion in some cases, overturning an earlier civil court decision that had capped compensation at PKR 10 million per person. The court further penalized Air Blue for filing unnecessary applications and wasting judicial time, reinforcing accountability in one of Pakistan’s deadliest aviation disasters.
