CM Murad Criticizes Media for Using Old Flood Footage to Mislead Public

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said on Wednesday that the recent heavy rains in Karachi are part of a global climate change trend, not just a local issue. He pointed to recent floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, China, New York, and Houston as examples of the worldwide climate crisis. Shah explained that Karachi received 160 to 170mm of rain in just 3 to 4 hours, rising to nearly 200mm in 12 hours—levels that naturally cause urban flooding in a densely populated city. He stressed the urgent need for modern drainage systems to tackle such extreme weather and ensure citizens’ safety. Despite the heavy downpour, the CM said the administration managed to clear water by late night, unlike the 2020 floods when water stagnated for over 24 hours. Acknowledging shortcomings, Shah welcomed constructive criticism and assured disciplinary action against officials who failed to perform.
