China Declares Zangnan as Its Territory in Strong Response to India

China has renewed its claim over Arunachal Pradesh—referred to as “Zangnan” by Beijing—declaring it part of South Tibet and Chinese territory. In a recent move, the Chinese government released new standardized names for over 20 locations in the region, citing historical and administrative reasoning. This development has further strained relations with India, which firmly considers Arunachal Pradesh an integral part of its territory. While India has repeatedly dismissed China’s assertions, Beijing’s Foreign Ministry maintains that the area was under Chinese control until 1987, when they allege India took it over unlawfully.
