Arif Habib Group Secures Historic PIA Privatisation Deal with Rs 135 Billion Winning Bid

The Arif Habib Consortium has emerged as the successful bidder for the privatisation of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) after offering Rs135 billion for a 75% stake, following a competitive multi-stage bidding process. The Lucky Consortium secured second place with a close bid of Rs134 billion, while Airblue also participated in the initial stages. Government officials stated that the privatisation aims to revive and strengthen PIA rather than merely sell it, with plans to allocate 92.5% of the proceeds to improve operations, modernise the fleet, and enhance passenger services, while private-sector management is expected to boost performance and attract new investment into Pakistan’s aviation sector.
