Sohail Afridi Appointed as New Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Sohail Afridi has been elected as the new Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 90 votes in his favor, amid opposition protests over the validity of the election. Opposition members, led by Dr. Ibadullah, staged a walkout, claiming Ali Amin Gandapur’s resignation had not yet been accepted, making the proceedings “unlawful.” In his first address, Afridi announced a judicial inquiry into the May 9 incident involving the Radio Pakistan building and a probe into alleged irregularities in the February 8 elections. He condemned the recent firing on a religious party’s workers and criticized the federal government’s policy toward Afghan refugees as “inhumane.” Afridi also vowed to abolish the ‘Action in Aid to Civil Power’ law and ruled out military operations without public approval. Announcing new welfare measures, he introduced the Ehsaas Maa Program for pregnant women, scholarships for orphan girls, and initiatives to boost tourism, border markets, and provincial infrastructure.
