Shehbaz Sharif Orders Crackdown on Smuggling, Hoarding of Petroleum Products

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to take strict action against the smuggling and illegal hoarding of petroleum products amid ongoing fuel supply challenges in Pakistan. The instructions were issued during a high-level meeting in Islamabad, where officials reviewed fuel supply chains, stock levels, and distribution systems. The government also assessed the impact of austerity measures introduced due to rising regional tensions, particularly involving Iran, which have added uncertainty to global energy markets. Despite disruptions in oil supply routes, including around the Strait of Hormuz, the prime minister said there are no immediate plans to increase fuel prices and stressed the need to protect consumers while ensuring a stable supply of petroleum products nationwide.
