PM Shehbaz Greenlights New Gas Connections Across Pakistan

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced the revival of new domestic gas connections across Pakistan, marking a major step toward providing affordable and reliable energy to households. Speaking at a ceremony in Islamabad, the Prime Minister said the decision addresses the long-standing public demand for access to basic utilities. Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik added that the government is committed to public welfare and energy reforms, noting that Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) posted a profit of Rs29 billion last fiscal year due to improved efficiency. To ensure transparency, Project Management Offices (PMOs) have been established in both SNGPL and Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) to oversee applications, new connections, and customer concerns. Consumers who have already paid their demand notes can now complete the process by paying the remaining differential and security fees. The government is also planning an online application system to make the process easier and faster. Officials say the initiative will expand access to clean energy, reduce reliance on alternative fuels, and strengthen Pakistan’s energy infrastructure.
