For the first time in over two years, all six environmental testing sites in Peshawar have tested negative for poliovirus, marking a major milestone in Pakistan’s polio eradication efforts, according to the NIH Polio Eradication Lab. Out of 24 sewage samples tested nationwide, 13 were negative and 11 positive. Officials praised the progress, especially in high-risk areas like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where positive sites dropped from 14 in January to seven in June. Balochistan also showed significant improvement, with only four positive sites in June compared to 19 earlier this year, signaling strong momentum in the fight against polio.
