PCB Criticized for Excluding World Cup-Winning Captain from August 14 Video

On the 14th of August, 2023, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) unveiled a video commemorating the rich history of cricket, but the video’s content generated significant criticism.

On the eve of Independence Day, the PCB released a video via their Masadiqa X account (formerly known as Twitter). The video showcased pivotal moments in cricket’s timeline, spanning from 1952 up to the present day. Nevertheless, the conspicuous absence of Imran Khan, the sole captain who steered Pakistan to victory in the 1992 Cricket World Cup, triggered widespread backlash.

Imran Khan’s exclusion from the video raised concerns among fans and users of social media platforms. Their dismay was evident as they pointed out the PCB’s failure to feature this cricket icon.

Curiously, the thumbnail chosen by the PCB for the video prominently depicted Imran Khan holding the 1992 World Cup trophy alongside six other players. This incongruity between the video’s content and its thumbnail image spurred discussions regarding the PCB’s approach to commemorating cricket’s history and its revered figures.
