Pakistan’s internet is better and cheaper than in many countries: Atta Tarar

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar stated on Tuesday that Pakistan offers some of the best and cheapest internet services in the region, and the quality of these services is expected to improve in the near future.

“There were some issues in recent days, but they have now been resolved,” Tarar said while speaking to journalists after the inauguration of the Media Cricket League 2025.

He further added, “I believe these issues are being politicized without any evidence,” and questioned the credibility of the facts and figures presented in reports, asking, “Under what parameters were they calculated?”

This statement follows a report from Top10VPN.com, which revealed that Pakistan incurred a financial loss of $1.62 billion due to internet connectivity problems, surpassing the losses seen in conflict-ridden countries like Sudan and Myanmar. The report also highlighted at least 18 deliberate internet shutdowns in 2024, including three significant disruptions during elections and protests for “information control.”

While not naming specific countries, Tarar emphasized, “Several countries have faced technical glitches, but we have better internet systems.”

He concluded by stating that Pakistan’s internet service has improved and will continue to improve in the coming days, adding, “Pakistan has the cheapest internet, and you won’t find cheaper internet anywhere.”
