Pakistan to reduce loadshedding from tonight, says power minister

Awais Leghari has announced a reduction in electricity loadshedding starting tonight, apologizing for recent disruptions and assuring improved power supply.

He said areas served by K-Electric and HESCO did not face additional outages, with K-Electric currently drawing a record 2,100MW from the national grid.

The minister revealed a power shortfall of around 4,000MW, caused by gas supply issues linked to the Strait of Hormuz, reduced LNG availability, and lower hydropower generation.

He added that demand has ranged between 9,000 and 20,000MW, with loadshedding increasing when it exceeds 16,500MW, but expressed hope for improvement as hydropower production rises.
