Pakistan Sees Decline in Animal Sacrifices on Eidul Adha

This Eidul Adha, around 600,000 to 1 million fewer animals were sacrificed in Pakistan compared to previous years, according to the Pakistan Tanners Association and livestock farmers. A total of 6.977 million animals were sacrificed nationwide, including 3 million cows, 3.4 million goats, 400,000 sheep, and 100,000 camels. The decline is largely attributed to rising inflation and reduced public purchasing power. Although animal prices generally dropped—cows averaged Rs. 150,000, down by Rs. 25,000—goat and camel prices increased. The overall value of sacrificial animals stayed under Rs. 500 billion, while the estimated value of collected hides reached Rs. 6.35 billion.
