Pakistan Raises K2 Climbing Permit Fees for International Climbers

The Gilgit-Baltistan government has raised mountaineering and trekking fees, including a big increase for K2 climbs. Foreign climbers now pay $5,000 in summer, $2,500 in autumn, and $1,500 in winter. Pakistani climbers face Rs100,000 for summer, Rs50,000 for autumn, and Rs30,000 for winter. Trekking fees for foreigners have also gone up.

Group sizes are now limited to 20, and porters must be insured. Individual permits replace collective ones, doubling costs by 2025. These changes aim to improve safety and organization in mountaineering.
