Pakistan declares a day of mourning for the death of Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Nawaf

The royal court has announced the passing of Kuwait’s Emir, Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah, at the age of 86. He ascended to the throne in September 2020 following the demise of his brother, Sheikh Sabah.

Recognized as a consensus builder, Sheikh Nawaf faced challenges during his reign, including a standoff between the government and the elected parliament. The cause of his death has not been disclosed. Crown Prince Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Sabah, who has effectively ruled since 2021, has been designated as Sheikh Nawaf’s successor.

World leaders have conveyed their condolences to the Al Sabah family and the people of Kuwait.
