New Polio Case in Hyderabad Pushes Pakistan’s 2025 Tally to 27

A new polio case has been reported in Hyderabad, Sindh, raising Pakistan’s total to 27 cases in 2025, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) confirmed. This includes 18 cases from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, seven from Sindh, and one each from Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan. Pakistan and Afghanistan remain the only countries where polio is still endemic, with challenges like vaccine hesitancy and security issues hindering eradication efforts. Earlier this month, a Sub-National Polio Vaccination Campaign immunised 21 million children across 88 districts, while the next nationwide drive from October 13–19 aims to reach 45.5 million children.
