Pakistan reported its latest polio case on Wednesday in Chagai district, Balochistan, bringing the national total for the year to 43, according to the Pakistan Polio Eradication Programme. Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only countries where polio is still endemic, and vaccination teams face threats from militants. On Monday, a week-long vaccination campaign began to immunize over 45 million children under five. The National Institute of Health confirmed the detection of Wild Poliovirus Type-1 in the child from Chagai, marking the first case from the district. So far, Balochistan has reported 22 cases, Sindh 12, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 7, and one each from Punjab and Islamabad.
