The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) reported that it has recovered nearly Rs9 trillion in the last two years, mostly in the form of land and property reclaimed from illegal possession. These recoveries saw a major rise after NAB’s legal powers were revised in 2022. Officials noted that while NAB had recovered $3.15 billion from 1999 to early 2023, the figure surged to $29.99 billion after March 2023, with only a small portion being actual cash and the rest consisting of assets returned to the government. The NAB chairman said the bureau has received Rs62 billion in government funding over 26 years, and recent reforms have improved efficiency, strengthened trust among officials, and accelerated investigations and accountability processes.
