The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cabinet Committee on Legislation has approved the draft of the Kalash Marriage Bill, marking a historic step toward protecting the marital rights and cultural identity of the Kalash community in Chitral’s Bumburet, Rumbur, and Birir valleys. The bill introduces a legal system for marriage registration in line with Kalash traditions, addressing generations of unregistered unions that caused legal challenges. Once endorsed by the KP Cabinet, the draft will be tabled in the Provincial Assembly for final approval, ensuring recognition and preservation of the community’s cultural heritage.
