Karachi ranks as the world’s most polluted city

Karachi, the largest metropolis in Pakistan, has earned the unfortunate distinction of being labeled the most polluted city in the world according to the Air Quality Index (AQI). Karachi recorded an alarming average AQI reading of 220, while Lahore secured the third position on this concerning list.

To grasp the severity of this pollution, it’s crucial to understand the AQI scale, where an AQI falling within the range of 151 to 200 is deemed unhealthy, 201 to 300 is categorized as even more detrimental, and any value surpassing 300 is considered extremely hazardous.

The AQI is derived by factoring in five different types of pollution, which encompass ground-level ozone, particulate matter, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide.
