Karachi lost over Rs. 3 billion in a day because businesses shut down

The decision by the Sindh government to impose a lockdown in Karachi coinciding with the visit of the Iranian president has stirred discontent among numerous traders.

The government declared Tuesday as a provincial holiday, mandating the closure of key commercial hubs such as the Saddar shopping centers and the electronics market on MA Jinnah Road. While certain grain markets and clothing stores were granted partial opening permissions, business remained sluggish.

Traders express concerns over financial losses, estimating potential daily losses to hover around Rs 3.5 billion. They urge the government to devise a transparent strategy to facilitate uninterrupted business operations with minimal disruptions.
