Javelin star Arshad Nadeem ends Pakistan’s 40-year wait for Olympic gold

On Thursday, Arshad Nadeem set a new Olympic record and ended Pakistan’s 32-year wait for a gold medal by winning the men’s javelin final in Paris. Nadeem, from Mian Channu, initially missed his first attempt but then threw an impressive 92.97 meters, outdoing all competitors.

Reigning champion Neeraj Chopra took silver with an 89.45m throw, while Grenada’s Anderson Peters won bronze with 88.54m.

Nadeem’s victory marked Pakistan’s first individual gold medal, first track and field medal, and the second time a South Asian has won in track and field. His throw also broke the previous Olympic record of 90.57 meters set by Andreas Thorkildsen in 2008.
