Internet Cable Issue in Pakistan Still Unresolved, Confirms IT Secretary

The Secretary of Information Technology has confirmed that the fault in the international internet cable has not been fully repaired yet. During a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on IT and Telecommunications, officials revealed that while the responsible consortium is working to restore connectivity, Pakistan’s internet traffic has been rerouted through alternative channels to reduce disruptions. The committee also raised concerns about poor mobile signal coverage nationwide and summoned PTA officials for clarification in the next session. Meanwhile, the Islamabad IT Park project has reached 80% completion, with construction being carried out in collaboration with a Korean company. However, delays have led the Prime Minister to order an inquiry. Federal Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja noted that spectrum shortages and legal disputes are major causes of network issues. Currently, Pakistan operates on 274 MHz of spectrum, and a new spectrum auction is expected by December or January to boost telecom capacity and improve connectivity across the country.
