Indonesia bans the use of iPhone 16

Apple Inc. is banned from selling the iPhone 16 in Indonesia as it didn’t meet the rule requiring 40% of components to be locally made. According to Indonesia’s industry ministry, without local content certification, the iPhone 16 cannot be sold officially.

Individuals can still bring the iPhone 16 for personal use if they pay import taxes. Apple has yet to fulfill the investment commitments needed for certification.

This reflects Indonesia’s aim to boost local production, jobs, and economic growth by encouraging global companies to invest. Apple’s restriction may impact its market share in the country.
