The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) has announced that a three-credit-hour Artificial Intelligence (AI) course will be mandatory for all undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes across Pakistan from the 2026 academic session. The new policy will apply to all public and private universities, and institutions have been directed to immediately update their curricula to include the compulsory AI course. According to HEC officials, the Artificial Intelligence course may be offered as an elective, an interdisciplinary subject, or as a supporting course within the existing degree structure. This major decision aims to strengthen digital skills, promote AI education in Pakistan, and prepare students for the evolving technology-driven job market.
