Hasan Nawaz, son of former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has been declared a “deliberate tax defaulter” by the UK’s tax authority, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). According to the UK’s latest defaulters list, he owes £9.4 million (around PKR 3.2 billion) in taxes for 2015 and 2016 and has been fined £5.2 million (about PKR 1.8 billion) as a penalty. Hasan’s legal team claims he had already paid the required taxes and argues that the dispute arose from HMRC’s additional demands.
