Has the US dollar plummeted to PKR 186 against the Pakistani rupee?

Late on Tuesday night, an issue with Google Search resulted in the erroneous display of a significant decrease in the exchange rate between the US dollar and the Pakistani rupee, leading to confusion among individuals. The rate indicated a value of Rs186.73 for the US dollar, which was considerably lower than recent rates. However, it was later determined that the sudden decline was caused by a glitch on the search engine’s website.

On June 6, in the interbank market, the Pakistani rupee concluded at 286.56 against the US dollar, while it remained above Rs300 in the open market.

Once the glitch was identified, it was promptly rectified, and the rates returned to Rs286.72. This is not the first occurrence of such a glitch on the largest search engine worldwide, as similar incidents have taken place in the past, resulting in temporary discrepancies in the displayed dollar rates.

In the previous year, in July, the rates had temporarily dropped to Rs207.10, despite the State Bank of Pakistan reporting different rates. According to the central bank, the rupee had closed at 236.02 against the US dollar in the interbank market.
