Election Commission says Pakistan can’t have General Election in the next 90 days

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has stated that conducting general elections within a span of 90 days is unfeasible due to the extensive task of delineating electoral constituencies, which necessitates approximately four months. This conclusion was reached during a convened session led by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja.

The ECP is embarking on a comprehensive redistricting endeavor encompassing all voting regions across Pakistan, encompassing both the National and provincial assemblies. This initiative is intricately tied to the results of the seventh national census. A meticulously planned timeline has been established for this undertaking, with the final outcomes anticipated to be prepared by December 14. Additionally, the ECP has extended an invitation to political parties to furnish their financial particulars for the fiscal year 2022-23, with a deadline of August 29.
