A devastating earthquake has struck Morocco, bringing with it tragic news. The toll is grim, with more than 2,000 lives lost and an equal number of individuals suffering injuries. Among the injured, approximately 1,400 people are in critical condition. The most severe devastation unfolded in regions just south of the city of Marrakesh.
In response to this catastrophe, King Mohammed VI of Morocco has declared a nationwide mourning period lasting three days. Additionally, he is overseeing efforts to provide survivors with shelter, food, and essential supplies.
This formidable earthquake, measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale, occurred on a fateful Friday night and left a trail of destruction in its wake. In some mountainous areas, entire villages have been reduced to rubble.
The earthquake originated in the High Atlas Mountains, situated roughly 44 miles southwest of the renowned city of Marrakesh, which is celebrated for its historical landmarks and is a popular destination for tourists.
