Civil society protests the extrajudicial killing of a Umerkot blasphemy suspect

Civil society activists from across the province protested in Umerkot on Wednesday. The protest was led by the daughter of Dr. Shahnawaz Kunbhar, who was allegedly killed by police in a staged encounter.

The protest took place outside the Umerkot Press Club, with participants chanting for peace in Sindh. Ms. Hareem Kunbhar stated that her father’s alleged blasphemy had not been confirmed, as the social media account linked to the accusations was not in his name.

Activist Comrade Punhal Sario and others urged Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari to address the issue, criticizing MNA Ameer Ali Shah Jeelani for honoring the police involved in the killing.
