Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced he is stepping down due to internal disagreements within his party. He said these challenges made him feel he’s no longer the right person to lead in the next election. Trudeau has asked the Liberal Party president to start the process of choosing a new leader. This decision follows growing dissatisfaction with his leadership and the sudden resignation of his finance minister last year, highlighting unrest within his government.
The Canadian Parliament, which was set to resume on January 27, will now remain suspended until March 24 to give the Liberal Party time to hold a leadership race and select a new leader.
Trudeau, who became Canada’s second-youngest prime minister in 2015, had planned to run for a fourth term despite the challenges within his party.
In his announcement, he expressed his love for Canada as his main motivation and described himself as a fighter. However, he acknowledged that the internal issues have led him to step aside and let someone else take over.
