Bill Proposes 3-6 Month Jail, Rs200k Fine for Forcing Women Out of Homes

The National Assembly of Pakistan has introduced the Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill 2025, presented by PPP MNA Sharmila Faruqui, to protect women from unfair eviction from their homes. The bill proposes jail terms of three to six months and fines up to Rs200,000 for offenders, with cases handled by first-class magistrates for swift justice. Aimed at addressing long-standing cultural and traditional biases, the legislation seeks to safeguard women’s rights, uphold their dignity, and promote equality by making wrongful eviction a punishable crime.
