In a lavish display, over Rs5 million in local and foreign currency was thrown during the wedding celebrations of an overseas Pakistani in Sambrial Tehsil, Sialkot.
The groom, Imran, from Bhakrewali village, held a wedding that drew widespread attention. As the procession moved through the village, Imran’s brothers and friends showered currency notes along the route, attracting crowds of onlookers.
At the wedding hall, the display reached its peak when Imran’s brothers climbed onto a container and scattered more currency over the crowd, creating a spectacle that drew young men from distant areas to collect the money.
Imran, who traveled from Italy for his wedding, was joined by his brothers from Spain and Canada, adding to the grandeur of the event.
While extravagant displays like this are common at lavish weddings in Pakistan, they often face criticism for their insensitivity, especially in a country struggling with economic challenges.
