Pakistan Officially Asks IMF for $1 Billion: Finance Minister

Pakistan’s Finance Minister, Muhammad Aurangzeb, announced plans to secure $1 billion in funding from the IMF’s Resilience and Sustainability Trust. This request was made during the IMF/World Bank meetings in Washington. The country had already received a bailout from the IMF but is seeking additional support to handle economic challenges.

Pakistan is also in talks with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) for $200-250 million through a Panda bond issue, which would be sold in China.

In addition, the government plans to privatize Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and outsource Islamabad airport’s operations by November. These moves aim to stabilize the economy, attract investment, and reduce the country’s debt.
