Pakistanis Paid Over Rs. 700 Billion in Taxes via Electricity Bills

Pakistan electricity distribution companies collected over Rs. 700 billion in taxes through power bills during fiscal year 2024–25, highlighting the growing financial burden on consumers nationwide.

The report stated that these taxes are directly charged to electricity users and later transferred to the government through utility bill payments. Electricity bills continue to serve as a major source of tax collection across the country.

Among all power companies, Lahore Electric Supply Company recorded the highest tax collection with more than Rs. 198 billion, while Multan Electric Power Company collected nearly Rs. 118 billion during the fiscal year.
