PCB Chief Naqvi Says Goal Was to Earn Respect for Bangladesh After ICC Talks

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said his recent meetings with officials of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) were aimed at ensuring respect for Bangladesh in international cricket. Speaking to the media in Peshawar, he made the remarks a day after the government withdrew its decision to boycott Pakistan’s group-stage match against India in the T20 World Cup on February 15. The decision came after lengthy talks involving the ICC, cricket boards of Pakistan and Bangladesh, consultations at the government level, and diplomatic efforts by friendly countries including Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates. Pakistan had earlier announced the boycott on February 1 after Bangladesh were replaced by Scotland in the tournament due to their refusal to tour India over security concerns linked to strained political relations.
